ITEC DIPLOMA IN SPORTS MASSAGE
PRE-ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
ITEC Holistic Massage or its equivalent is required for the Sports Massage Diploma Course This comprises . Unit 1 - Anatomy and Physiology . Unit 2 - Holistic massage theory & practice . Unit 22 Professional conduct and business awareness.
Successful student will be awarded the I.T.E.C. SPORTS MASSAGE DIPLOMA
. Study to cover a general knowledge of: . Anatomy and Physiology with special emphasis on Skeletal, Muscular, Vascular and Neurological Systems . Massage - additional specific techniques for sports injuries . Neuromuscular technique . Muscular energy technique . Soft tissue release . Strain-counterstrain . Joint saving techniques . Cryotherapy, thermotherapy . Exercise - passive, active and resistive . Contraindications . Nutrition in Sports
Case Studies. Throughout the course students are expected to perform case study work in their own time. Five clients to be treated, three times each, to include a wide range of conditions and sports massage techniques. Photocopies must be handed to the practical examiner.
Practical Examination Students are required to demonstrate their advancement of basic massage techniques to manage sports people with or without injury. Students are required to demonstrate simple exercises and other home care advice. (For February 2008 course Students must ensure that they are available for examination on Friday 8th August 2008)
Oral Questions at the Examiner's discretion
Theory Examination A one-hour, 50 question, multi-choice examination in Unit 9 Sports Massage Theory
To be examined students must hold a recognised full, current first aid course.
COURSE TIMES
Sports Massage classes are held over 21 weeks 10.00am to 2.00pm or 6.00pm to 10.00pm Wednesday Courses commence in February or September
To satisfy ITEC requirements students of all Holistic Massage courses will be required to attend an additional five tutorial sessions. These will be held on Saturday afternoons between 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm. If it is not possible to attend these sessions additional classroom time may be made available.
