REFLEXOLOGY
REFLEXOLOGY (International Qualification)
Pre-entry qualifications
- Unit 1- Anatomy & Physiology
- Unit 22 - Professional conduct and business awareness or their equivalents as a prerequisite (A&P must be at least level 3, Unit 22 must be at least level 2.)
- Should the unit 22 qualification not be held it may be studied as a home study project and examined on week 21
Successful candidates will be awarded the I.T.E.C. REFLEXOLOGY DIPLOMA
A 21 week course comprising both theoretical and practical elements. Classroom instruction covers a complete treatment programme to both feet and hands. It covers recognition of organs and their functions including visual recognition and treatment for a range of common disorders. This will be supported by case study work and homework.
THEORY
- The History, Theory and Philosophy of Reflexology
- Techniques of Reflexology
- Concepts and theories as to how and why it works
- Zones and their relation to organs and functions
- Philosophy of Complementary Medicine
- An introduction to other Natural Therapies (Herbalism, Homeopathy, Aromatherapy etc).
- The Holistic approach, treating the whole person
- Integral Biology (ie how the body is affected by environmental and social factors)
- The study of common complaints related to reflex areas
- The feet - the structure, disorders, condition.
- Contraindications - possible client/patient reaction to treatment
PRACTICAL
- External reading of the feet
- Techniques and Sequence
- Hygiene and Sterilisation
- Preparation of work place
- Interpretations of Reflexes
- Consultations
- Record keeping
- Hand Reflexology
- Client Care and comfort/home care advice
- Contraindications
- Presentation and professional image of practitioner
- Home assignments and individual projects.
ITEC REFLEXOLOGY (UNIT 4) EXAMINATION CRITERIA
Case studies:
40 Home Treatments to be carried out (supported by documentary evidence that they have been done).
A minimum of 40 Case Histories with reactions and follow-up notes. 4 treatments each to be carried out on TEN people.
Photocopies to be handed to Practical Examiner
Practical Examination:
A complete treatment, including consultation and reading the feet.
Findings during this treatment to be recorded on a blank diagram of foot with brief resume of the treatment.
(For February/March 2010 course Students must ensure that they are available for examination on Friday 13th August 2010)
Oral: (as part of the practical exam)
Oral questions at discretion of examiner
Theory Examination
A one-hour, 50 question, multi-choice exam in Unit 4 Reflexology.
COURSE TIMES
Reflexology classes are held over 21 weeks 10.00am to 2.00pm or 6.00pm to 10.00pm Tuesday
